Gateway to Africa, a land of breathtaking mountain ranges, ancient cities, and sweeping deserts, Morocco is any photographer’s paradise. The heart of Morocco lies in its cities, where ancient traditions blend seamlessly with modern life. Marrakech, with its bustling souks and iconic Djemaa el-Fna square, offers a sensory feast for photography. Fes, the cultural capital, invites exploration of its maze-like streets and renowned leather tanneries. And in the coastal city of Casablanca, the striking Hassan II Mosque stands as a testament to the country’s architectural splendour.

But perhaps the most captivating aspect of photography in Morocco is the opportunity to capture the spirit of its people. From the nomadic Berbers of the desert to the vibrant characters found in the markets and streets, the faces of Morocco tell stories of resilience, tradition, and hospitality. Through portraiture, photographers can capture the soul of this ancient land, forging connections that transcend language and culture.

In every corner of Morocco, from its bustling cities to its remote desert expanses, photographers will find inspiration at every turn. With its rich tapestry of culture, history, and natural beauty, Morocco is a photographer’s paradise waiting to be explored.

An early morning street of Marrakesh in Morocco. Marrakesh is a former imperial city in western Morocco which is a major economic centre and home to mosques, palaces and gardens. The medina is a densely packed, walled medieval city dating to the Berber Empire, with mazelike alleys where thriving souks (marketplaces) sell traditional textiles, pottery and jewellery. A symbol of the city, and visible for miles, is the Moorish minaret of 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque. But the typical thing that I found in most of the cities of Morocco is that all the cities are surrounded by very high-rise walls. In this image, I wanted to show how high these walls are. Gateway to Africa, land of breath-taking mountain ranges, ancient cities and sweeping deserts, Morocco is any photographer’s dream and the ideal place to host our epic photo tour. Taking photos (of people) in Morocco, can be difficult, which is why this workshop was the ultimate challenge and the perfect opportunity for anyone who wanted to make a giant leap in their street photography skills and conquer their fears in street photography.
